If you’re a 90’s baby or even a parent of a kid born in the 90’s, you may be familiar with PBS’ classic show Reading Rainbow. Hosted by the famous actor LeVar Burton, who played Kunta Kinte on Roots, Reading Rainbow was an imperative television series for young kids to get accustomed to the enjoyments of reading. Though the show has stop being aired, LeVar Burton has decided to relaunch this series, only this time he wants it to be on the world wide web. This way, many children over the world, especially in America, can now have access to this great series to help fight illiteracy. Likewise, just as any Kickstarter campaign is launched, LeVar launched the Reading Rainbow campaign on Wednesday. Within 22 hours or less, his campaign reached its goal of $1 Million! Currently, the pledge is at $1.7M with 34 days to go. It’s great to see that other people around the world support Burton’s movement to end illiteracy and make the joy of reading return.
