“Kill The Messenger” starring Jeremy Renner, is based on the true story of journalist Gary Webb. Taking place in the mid 1990s, Webb uncovers the CIA’s past role in importing enormous amounts of cocaine into the U.S. As you can guess, Webb received tons of pressure not to, but he chooses to pursue the story anyways and went public with his evidence, publishing the series Dark Alliance. In result, Webb experienced a vicious smear campaign fueled by the CIA that drove him to the point of suicide.
