Third Time’s A Charm, USA Defeats Ghana 2-1!!

USP SOCCER: WORLD CUP-GHANA VS USA S SOC BRA

In what was a very thrilling game to watch for American fans and supporters alike, the United States who lost to the Ghanaian ‘Black Stars’ in 2006 & 2010 got their revenge tonight in Brazil. Led by the veteran Clint Dempsey, who scored the 6th fastest goal in World Cup history at 30 seconds, the Americans came out the first half ready to win. At the 23′ minute mark, Jozy Altidore was substituted for Aron Jóhannsson. Due to the injury of Aron Jóhannsson having to fill the void, Ghana was able to get some good strikes during the first half, but didn’t score. Going in the second half, the ‘Black Stars’ dominated the offensive possession. Good defense from USA’s goalie, Tim Howard, saved a few shots, however, in the 82′ minute mark, Ghana’s Andre Ayew came up with a brilliant left-footed shot tying the game 1-1. With only 8 minutes left in the game, most fans probably were thinking both teams weren’t capable of scoring within the little bit of time left. However, on a great corner kick, shot by Graham Zusi on mid cross, the 21 year old John Brooks connected with a beautiful header to help lead the Americans to victory. This was definitely an exciting match up. We’ll provide the video footage once it’s placed on the web. Stay tuned for more updates about the World Cup.
