2014’s highest paid musical artist, Taylor Swift, is known for her mellifluous voice and reserved demeanor. Therefore, upon releasing the visual for her single entitled “Shake It Off”, many people voiced their opposition of this track deeming it as “offensive”.
After watching the video, we were definitely surprised to see Taylor Swift change up her music steelo. However, after watching the video, we can honestly say her video wasn’t offensive at all! While many African Americans agreed with rapper Earl Sweatshirt’s tweet which voiced his opposition, Earl Sweatshirt and others clearly exaggerated this frivolous debate.
Moreover, how can you judge a video, that you didn’t even take the time out watch?
Ironically, another famous pop star, Nicki Minaj, just release pics for her upcoming video, ‘Anaconda”. While one would think a debate of “offensiveness” would unfold from the lap-dance below, most minorities happily celebrated and shared this picture on multiple media sources.
Is there anything wrong with this picture to us? Nope, no complaints from our end at all! However, the hypocrisy is annoying to skim through on media outlets. In fact, Nicki Minaj’s video won’t even perpetuate the level of “offensiveness” compared to that of WorldStarHipHop’s ‘Vine Compilations’.
Call a Spade, A Spade!
Selectively choosing which artists can and cannot do are not only unfair, but are hypocritical. Honestly, how offended can you really be when viewing Taylor Swift’s new video when we know most artists in our society have far more worst visual and audio content?
