ESPN Issues Apology For Yesterday’s “Michael Sam Showering” Report

In one of the more bizarre & awkward moments on broadcast television, yesterday ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported on Michael Sam’s showering habits in the locker room. Wait………..WHAT!? Lo & Behold the buffoonery that is ESPN……..

That’s right……out of all the NFL Football news out there (injuries, roster cuts, training camp battles, week 1 matchups,) ESPN thought it was important to talk about an NFL hopeful’s showering habits. This isn’t the first time the “Worldwide Leader” has attempted to create storylines out of nothing just to attract attention to them. But apparently since this storyline had to do with Michael Sam, who is now famously dubbed as the “First Ever OPENLY gay man in an NFL Training Camp”, it seems that ESPN has gone too far and today they are issuing an apology.

“ESPN regrets the manner in which we presented our report,” the network said in a statement. “Clearly yesterday we collectively failed to meet the standards we have set in reporting on LGBT-related topics in sports.” –ESPN

I’m not sure what kind of “Standards” they are speaking of. If any standard was set in my opinion it has been the Network being at the forefront of bringing unwanted attention to a young man trying to fulfill his dream of being an NFL player for reasons that are not related to his ability to play football and everything to do with Michael Sam’s personal life. Let’s just be thankful this incident happened now and not later in the regular season when ESPN reporters are trying to interview Sam’s boyfriend after every game about his 15 seconds of fame during the NFL draft. Week 1 can’t get here quick enough.
