Time and time again it seems like politicians, both Democratic & Republican, are faced with unsurprising convictions after abusing their political power for personal gain.
Today, former governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen McDonnell were convicted on public corruption charges. Bob McDonnell was found guilty on 11 out of the 13 federal charges. While his wife, Maureen, was found guilty on 9 out of the 13 charges.
According to AP News, this conviction was made after undeniable evidence proved that the McDonnell’s exchanged “favors” with vitamin executive Bobby Williams for $165,000. Reports claim that the McDonnell’s needed the money to pay off debt that once topped $90,000.00.
–“Williams testified under immunity that he spent freely on the McDonnells in order to secure their help promoting his supposed cure-all, the tobacco-derived anti-inflammatory Anatabloc. Among the gifts were nearly $20,000 in designer clothing and accessories for Maureen McDonnell, a $6,500 Rolex watch for her husband, $15,000 in catering for one of their daughter’s wedding, free vacations and golf outings. Williams also provided three loans totaling $120,000.”– AP News
