Game of the Week: Seahawks vs. Packers

Football season is finally here!! No more pointless preseason games, it’s time to look at some real football that the people actually care about. And what better way to kick off the NFL season than to have a game preview? Naturally given the fact that it is week 1 of the NFL 2014-15 season, the first game is always “The Game”. Opening night of the NFL season is a match-up between the defending Super Bowl Champs (Seahawks) & the NFC North Champs (Packers). Green Bay Packers return to Seattle for the first time since their infamous loss in 2012 with the replacement officials refereeing the game which resulted in a controversial last second play. But before you tune to watch this game, here are some important facts to know.

Key Matchups Questions

Green Bay: How committed to the run will the Packers be against the Seahawks?

We all know about Seattle’s famed “Legion of Boom” secondary with Richard Sherman & Earl Thomas. However, every team unit, no matter how great has a weak spot; and for the Seahawks that weakness is up front. With the off-season departure of defensive tackle Red Bryant, Seattle’s run defense may take a step back this year. And it just so happens that Green Bay has great young back in Eddie Lacy that essentially carried the Packers Last year when Aaron Rodgers was out. But with Rodgers back in town, will Mike McCarthy make a concerted effort to establish the run with Lacy, or will he fall in love with the pass and test his All-Pro QB against Seattle’s secondary?

Seattle: Can the Seattle Offensive Line keep Russell Wilson upright?

Last year the Seahawks offensive line struggled protecting the QB due to injuries & just overall bad play. Russell Wilson spent of his time running around just buy more time to throw last year. But that’s never an ideal format for a QB to play well. Green Bay’s defense will obviously be keying on stopping Marshawn Lynch, and with their new addition of Julius Peppers & a healthy Clay Matthews; the Packers pass rush may be better than ever. Is the offensive line for Seattle ready the challenge when it’s time for Russell Wilson to make a play through the air?
