Seattle Seahawks showcased their Championship defense with a bang by blowing out the Green Bay Packers Thursday night 36-16 to start the NFL season. With RB Marshawn Lynch leading the way, Seattle dominated the Packers defense on the ground with over 200 rushing yards. Despite their best efforts, the Packers defense just couldn’t get Seattle’s offense off the field which in turn limited Aaron Rodgers’ opportunities. Multiply that with one of the best defenses in the league and you have a recipe for a disaster for the Green Bay Packers.

Although the final score may not indicate it, this game was fairly competitive well into the middle of the 3rd quarter. But things started to take a turn for the worst when Michael Bennett was able to get by Green Bay’s backup right tackle Derek Sherrod and stripped Aaron Rodgers of the football back into their own end zone; resulting in a safety. That play led to a 9-point lead in the Seahawks favor which forced Coach Mike McCarthy’s hand to abandon the run and pass the ball on the league’s best secondary to catch up. By the time the Packers were able to score in the second half it was only 9 minutes left in the game with a 13 point deficit. With that amount of time a 2 possession game wouldn’t seem that daunting but ultimately the theme of the whole game was that the Packers defense just could not stop Marshawn Lynch & the Seattle offense. Green Bay will now have 10 days to recover from this beat down & try to rebound against the New York Jets at home. While the Seattle Seahawks look to continue their good fortune to San Diego where they will take on the Chargers in Qualcomm Stadium. Damn it’s good to have football back!!! Here are some Key notes & Quotes from the game.

  • Key Stat: Total Rushing yards for Green Bay: 80 Total rushing yards for Marshawn Lynch: 110
