In this increasingly advanced digital age, it seems that more and more American companies continue to get attacked via cyber hackers. In 2013 we reported a major cyber breach from Target and Neiman Marcus. This year we’ve reported 145 Million records being extracted from Ebay and a cyber data preach of personal pictures and videos of popular actresses and celebrities. And now, we’re back again to report yet another cyber hack from the popular home improvement store Home Depot.
According to KrebsOnSecurity, nearly all of the Home Depots (2,200 stores) across the nation may have been affected by this recent data hack. Yes this means if you’ve used your credit or debit card at Home Depot recently, you too can be a victim! KrebsOnSecurity reports that this data breach was confirmed when looking at the zip codes of the stolen cards reported on Rescator[dot]cc. Rescator is a site that operates outside of the U.S. and sells stolen credit cards for profit. The reason why a site like this is able to function is because of lackadaisical laws that make this type of practice legal! This honestly doesn’t come as any surprise as we’ve learned that much of the world hates America.
–A comparison of the ZIP code data between the unique ZIPs represented on Rescator’s site, and those of the Home Depot stores shows a staggering 99.4 percent overlap.– Via KrebsOnSecurity
While Home Depot has not released an official statement confirming this recent hack, they have confirmed that they are in a current investigation in regards to “unusual card activity”.
