Willow Smith x “Easy Easy” (King Krule Cover)

Easy-EasyI consider Willow Smith as the antithesis of her wacked-out-of-his-mind, “Is he actually serious?”, troll of an older brother Jaden. With her slightly annoying, but undeniably catchy 2010 hit “Whip My Hair” aside, Willow has shown an affinity for music that leans slightly more on the serious side of the spectrum. Take her soulful, slow-burning jam “Summer Fling” for instance, which mixes Willow’s heartfelt vocals with an organic piano loop and colorful synth-based production.

Her recent take on King Krule‘s “Easy Easy” gives the 13-year-old’s relatively light catalogue some respectable depth. She adeptly emulates Krule’s usually gruff and downcast mood, replacing the 20-year-old’s bloodshot wails with effortlessly airy crooning. I’m not sure if that’s her playing the guitar, but the riffs sound right on point with what Krule fans are used to as well.
