South African track Olympian, Oscar Pistorius , has been in custody since the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. This murder took place on February 14, 2013, in which Oscar Pistorius claimed he had unintentionally shot his girlfriend after mistaking her for intruders.
Oscar Pistorius is a double-amputee and claims his disability is one of the reasons he discharged his 9mm gun; a feeling of vulnerability. Reeva Steenkamp was shot 4 times behind a bathroom door; the place in which Oscar believed intruders were entering his house.
Today, the South African courts ruled that the lack of evidence and witness testimony wasn’t enough to pin a charge of “premeditated murder” on Mr. Pistorius. However, a charge of “culpable homicide” is still pending. The verdict of this charge will be delivered this Friday.
