Looks like the NFL has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons lately! Today the media disclosed that Minnesota Vikings running back, Adrian Peterson, has been indicted on felony child abuse charges. These charges are said to have been reported after the 4 year old’s mother took him to the hospital. After doctors saw the child’s bruises and marks, the doctors deemed the child’s injuries as “physical abuse”.
Adrian Peterson has admitted to these child abuse charges after explaining to officials that he whooped his son with a switch (limb from a tree), a common tool used for disciplinary purposes in many parts of Texas. In fact, as a native of Palestine, Texas, Adrian Peterson has stated that he was only disciplining his son the same way his dad disciplined him.
While many people, especially Southerners, find no wrong in what AP did, the District Attorney of Montgomery County thinks otherwise. Earlier this year, these same charges were brought to a Grand Jury that DENIED charging Adrian Peterson with an indictment. However, obviously not happy with these results, the District Attorney brought a 2nd Grand jury to deliberate on the possible child abuse charges. As a result, it is the doing of the 2nd Grand Jury that has brought Adrian Peterson an indictment.
Why the District Attorney sought another Grand Jury to bring an indictment is still above our heads, but we’ll make sure to share that information once we find out. Until then , Adrian Peterson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, has released a statement:
–“Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son. He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened. Adrian will address the charges with the same respect and responsiveness he has brought to this inquiry from its beginning. It is important to remember that Adrian never intended to harm his son and deeply regrets the unintentional injury.”– Via Channel 2 News Houston
Reports indicate that AP will be turning himself in within the next few days. We’ll keep you posted on this breaking news. It’s crazy how much negative coverage the NFL and Roger Goodell have been facing recently, a remodeling of expectations is surely in the works to help the moral of this Football league!
