Yesterday, President Obama issued a statement in regards to stopping the current epidemic of the Ebola virus in West Africa. According to BBC, the number of deaths this year is approximately 2,500. As a result of the increase in related deaths, the President has asked for a global response to cease this deadly virus. To help begin facilitate this “global response”, Barack announced that he would be sending 3,000 American troops to Liberia and regions of West Africa to build treatment facilities.
If Ebola isn’t soon contained, researchers believe hundreds of thousands of citizens could be soon affected. Ebola is a highly contagious virus that essentially causes one’s immune system to corrupt that respective infected person.
Experts have estimated that the funds necessary to counter Ebola has risen to $1 Billion. The funds needed will be used to:
- Build Facilities
- Train Health Care Workers
- Develop Faster Air Support
- Provide health kits for families
