Jesse Leroy Matthews Jr. is now in the custody of Galveston County police after being charged in the abduction of missing UVA student Hannah Graham. 32 year old Matthews was reportedly linked to Hannah Graham’s abduction as early as September 15 when found on multiple surveillance cameras following the inebriated 18 year old.
According to her friends, Hannah went missing after leaving a bar with Matthews in downtown Charlottesville, Virginia. For reasons unknown, Hannah was separated from her group of friends in which she left the bar and began to walk the streets of downtown Charlottesville.
According to police, confusion within this story started when Hannah’s friends began to text her. Text messages indicate that Hannah believed she was near her apartment, however, witnesses claim that they saw her a mile from where she actually stated.
Due to Jesse Matthews being the last person seen with Hannah, police wanted to talk to Matthews about Hannah’s possible whereabouts. Last Saturday, Jesse Matthews walked into the Charlotesville Police department to talk with local officials. After multiple questions transpired, Charlottesville police reported Matthews left the police department quickly in which he wanted to “speak to his lawyer”. His actions then led police on a high speed chase where Matthews had not been seen again until yesterday; 1300 miles away from Charlottesville, VA on the beach camping out in Galveston, Texas.
With Matthews now in custody, Hannah’s family and officials believe Jesse Matthews will be able to lead them to their missing daughter. According to The Daily Mail, Jesse Matthews was expelled from Liberty University back in 2002 for an allegation of rape. A very unfortunate situation for the town of Charlottesville and the friends and family of Hannah, we hope that it isn’t too late to find the 18 year old UVA student alive.
