Per ESPN’s Mike Triplett, New Orleans’ prized off-season-free-agent-signee will have his season cut short due to a knee injury. Pro Bowl Safety Jairus Byrd was just put on season ending IR days ago after tearing his lateral meniscus during Thursday’s practice. Byrd immediately had surgery the next day and is expected to make a full recovery. This is a major loss for the New Orleans Saint who are already struggling early in the season at 1-3 with their defense being a major weakness. Now they must play the remaining 14 games without one of their top defensive players who was signed to a big contract this past off season. Byrd’s safety spot now be manned by veteran backup Rafael Bush.
