CY Leung made a statement today warning protesters that police “will take all actions necessary” to make sure government offices & schools reopen on Monday. After a week of streets being blocked by protesters, Public enemy no. 1 CY Leung asked for demonstrators to let the citizens of Hong Kong “resume their normal work & life.” However, thousands of people remained on the streets late Saturday night, with thousands setting up camp. Protestors have demanded that CY Leung resign in hopes  for the city to have free elections.  Mr Leung’s televised comments came after violence broke out between protesters & law enforcement which prevented the government from talking to the thousands of protesters. An anti-violence demonstration in the Admiralty district in Hong Kong is believed to be one of the largest protests yet. This protest would indicate that this movement will not go away anytime soon, despite what CY Leung said in his television address; which by most observers seemed more like a threatening ultimatum as opposed to a request to compromise. The Hong Kong Federation of Students, who have led the protest movement from the beginning, withdrew from planned negotiations with government officials after several attacks on protesters Friday night. They have accused the government of allowing gangs from the notorious triad to attack protesters, a claim denied by Hong Kong’s police department.
