If hearing the news about the second nurse infected with Ebola didn’t scare most Americans, the most recent news about a New York physician testing positive for Ebola will!
The infected doctor has been identified to the public as Craig Spencer (33). According to reports, Dr. Spencer came back to New York after treating Ebola infected patients in Guinea on October 17th. As of Thursday, Dr. Spencer had a fever of 103 degrees Fahrenheit in which he felt nauseous and tired. As a result, it was then that Dr. Spencer called health officials who alerted the New York hospital Bellevue.
According to The Guardian, Craig Spencer took many trips while carrying the Ebola virus. Some of these trips include a bowling alley, subway train and being the passenger of an Uber ride (taxi). However, while partaking in these various trips, Dr. Spencer did not show any symptoms of Ebola.
—“We want to state at the outset there is no reason for New Yorkers to be alarmed,” Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters late Thursday.–
“At the time that the doctor was on the subway he did not have fever … he was not symptomatic,” according to Bassett, who said the chances of anyone contracting the virus from contact with Spencer were “close to nil.”–Via CNN
So far, three people that have had close contact with Spencer (fiancée and two friends) have been quarantined and closely monitored.
While we hope health officials are right that this virus didn’t spread during it’s dormant stage within Dr. Craig Spencer, the fear of Ebola spreading has now risen even more in concern. And as it should, NY, New York is the most populous American city in this nation. Literally, it only takes a few people to contract Ebola to inevitably spread this deadly virus all over the U.S. We hope health officials can contain the spread of this virus and that Dr. Spencer recovers fully. Until then, all we can do is pray! We’ll keep you updated on this news as more coverage develops.
