“Beat the Odds, beat the Feds, it wouldn’t be right to bet against the kid”- Jay-Z
20 year old Jameis Winston, had arguably one of the best seasons a young athlete could ever have. The gifted quarter back was awarded the Heisman Trophy, The Walter Camp Award, Manning Award, AP Player of the year Award, ACC Player of the year, and of course; the BCS Championship Offensive Player of the year. If a Hollywood producer created a movie to pan out the way Winston’s did, critics would have said it wasn’t real enough. If an author wrote a book describing a season similar to Jameis Winston, it would have been deemed fictional. Without any other way of describing it, Jameis Winston had THE perfect season as a young quarterback…at least in terms of a football sense. On November 14, 2013, Tallahassee Police announced that they were opening an investigation from accusations of sexual assault between Jameis Winston and a young woman. According to Sports Illustrated after the accuser was not clear on her details, she lost contact with her attorney and county officials, which led to the criminal case being dropped. Regardless of the case being dropped, many college football fans held unnecessary guilt over Jameis Winston’s head, despite not being convicted. While many thought his case would stop him from winning the Heisman, he pushed through adversity and won the Heisman on December 5, 2013. Moreover, a month later, he continued to press through adversity and lead the Florida State Seminoles to a national championship. His story, among others, should serve as a platform for our youth to never lose focus of one’s goal and aspirations. Despite what the media and multiple sources said to degrade this young man, Jameis Winston found a way to remain humble, and in the end had a perfect season to show for it!
