According to CNN, powerful drug kingpin “El Chapo” has finally been apprehended in Mexico. Last night CNN reported that “Public Enemy #1” (Guzman), accompanied by a female, was captured in a joint operation with Mexican marines and Drug Enforcement Administration authorities at a hotel in the beach resort of Mazatlan, Mexico. Joaquin Guzman Loera is the boss of the Sinaloa Cartel, a Mexican organized crime syndicate responsible for a large portion of drugs being smuggled through U.S. borders from Mexico and other countries. Be aware, this is not the first time that the infamous drug lord has been arrested by authorities. Guzman was first captured back in 1993 in Guatemala, where he was then extradited to Mexico and sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. With his seemingly limitless source of income, El Chapo was capable of bribing the prison guards at the facility and escaped in 2001. Since then the U.S. & Mexican government, and also international agency INTERPOL, have been in heavy pursuit of El Chapo. Hopeful to pick-up on any clues that will assist in learning of his current whereabouts, the DEA has finally gotten their break. “El Chapo” Guzman has been ranked as high as 67th on Forbes’ World’s Most Powerful People list & possesses an estimated fortune of more than $1 billion.
