The whole sports world went crazy today after hearing that the 2-time NBA Champion & 4-time MVP, Lebron James,”Opted Out” of his contractual agreement with the Miami Heat today. By no means does this mean Lebron James is leaving Miami, however, we have good reason to believe he will. Back in 2010, we vividly remember videos of fans burning Lebron James jersey’s and merchandise. Almost similar to that of a mad girlfriend who got cheated on, Cleveland fans had to vent the only way they knew how.
Though this memory is probably just as vivid for Lebron, we believe he understands where these fans are coming from. If you look at the history of Cleveland Professional Sports, you probably can’t recall the last time a professional team in this Mid-West city won a championship. This is because this incident occurred 50 years ago ( Chicago Bears 1964; Pre-Super Bowl era). The only other championship was won in 1948 by the Cleveland Indians. Likewise, Lebron James was the city’s savior, and he knew that when making his decision to take “his talents to Miami”.
After maturing and getting two NBA rings under his belt, we think Lebron is ready to return home. In fact, it would definitely be in his best interest to do so. Why? Well, with the NBA Draft only two days way, Cleveland Cavaliers are the first team to choose from this year’s talented NBA draft pool. Reports think the Cavaliers will be acquiring the young Duke phenom, Jabari Parker. Lebron knows this, sports enthusiast know this. Likewise, with the impact of having this year’s first round pick and other young impact players, Kyrie Irving & Anderson Varejao, it would be pretty dumb for Lebron to go anywhere else.
We’ll keep you updated, but HEAT fans, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
