Today Federal Judge Frederick Scullin deemed the current D.C. ban on handguns unconstitutional. The Federal Judge upheld this ruling by referring to the U.S.’s 2nd Amendment.
“There is no longer any basis on which this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny,” Federal Judge Frederick Scullin explained via Reuters.
The 19-page ruling will now allow D.C. residents the right to carry guns outside of the residency. This case has reportedly been ongoing for five years.
