American citizen Matthew Todd Miller has been sentenced to 6 years of hard labor for committing ‘hostile acts’ while being a tourist in North Korea.
Matthew Miller, who originally is from California, went to the controversial country with the intent to seek DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) as an asylum (crazy, we know)!
Earlier this year Miller told CNN officials that he, ” prepared to violate the law of DPRK before coming here. And I deliberately committed my crime.” – (via CNN)
Welp, looks like Miller got what he asked for because his recent ruling in North Korea’s Supreme Court is a prime example of those who wish to seek North Korea as a shelter or a tourist attraction.
Earlier this year a 15 year sentence was pinned to American Jeffrey Fowle. The 56 year old from Miamisburg, Ohio, was arrested for “attempting to overthrow the state”.
