NBA All-Star weekend officially gets kicked off today with both the Sprint NBA All-Star Celebrity game and BBVA Rising Stars challenge taking place in Brooklyn later this evening. Product of Society will be keeping you up to date on all the interesting story lines that unfold throughout the weekend, which happens to have started last night at the first annual “Roc City Classic” headlined by none other than Kanye West himself. Our good friends at Roc Nation Sports outfitted us with tickets to the electric event as well as VIP passes to the after party celebration that took place at Jay-Z’s highly regarded 40/40 club in lower Manhattan.
Kanye stayed pretty busy on a day in which he put on an extremely well received fashion show (New York fashion week happens to also be in full swing), released his “Yeezy Boost”, the first piece of his highly anticipated Adidas shoe collection and put on a one hell of a concert featuring some of his G.O.O.D. Music label mates in Pusha T, Big Sean, Travi$ Scott and 2 Chainz.
Admission into the concert held outdoors at Madison Square Park was “free” for all fans but many fans will tell you they paid a heavy price to find tickets and then brave the conditions to see the legend himself in action. The concert pretty much had everything fans could have wanted and more including a subtle shot at Nike (Ye’s beef with “That other corporation” is well documented) and even an appearance from Drake. Though Aubrey did not join Kanye on stage to perform, you couldn’t tell based on the reaction he received from fans while walking down Broadway in a bright red overcoat and seemingly endless entourage.
Both the Sprint celebrity game and BBVA Rising Stars challenge are expected to create quite a buzz around the city, with celebs like (3 time MVP) Kevin Hart, Michael Rapaport and the WNBA’s talented young superstar Skylar Diggins taking the court later tonight but nothing will compare to the buzz Mr.West created with yesterday’s show, even our Uber driver tried to offer a free ride anywhere in Manhattan for our tickets!
At Product of Society we believe very strongly in stimulating conversation with our readers, and with that in mind we have decided to let our readers decide what we cover over the next few days. Please leave a comment below with “Oladipo” if you would like our next piece to be a 1 on 1 conversation with the budding Orlando Magic Star and Sprite Slam Dunk participant Victor Oladipo.
If you would like us to profile the stories inside the NBA D-League All-Star game, featuring Philadelphia 76ers and Maine Redclaw’s guard Tim Frazier, please leave the comment “DLeague” below. If there is an event, party or particular individual you would like us to cover leave it in the comments and we will choose based on the level of support for each suggestion.
