Earlier this year Texas legislation passed a ruling that would officially make the Lone Star State legal to openly carry handguns, rifles, and shotguns starting January 1, 2016. While many Texans celebrated this decision, some people such as Whataburger’s CEO Preston Atkinson have decided to take a stand against this ruling. According to reports, Whataburger will not allow customers who openly carry guns to step within the Whataburger premises. This announcement was prompted after Preston Atkinson decided that families and employees would not want to eat nor be around customers who openly possessed a firearm. Rightfully so, this decision was probably for the best. Whataburger who has over 700 locations has been a prominent food chain in Texas, and more traditionally a food chain that attracts many families and youth. As a result, more restaurants/food chains could follow the same path because property rights trump gun control rights. Moreover, it gives customers a better “peace of mind”.
While many haven’t yet voiced their concern over Whataburger’s announcement Texas Open Carry founder C.J. Grisham stated that this new policy was: “premature and irresponsible……I think most gun owners that know this policy are simply not going to go to Whataburger, like me”.
……. yea right Mr. Grisham!!
