While the city of Baltimore currently deals with the current state of police brutality, another unfortunate situation is lingering among the community; mass killings. So far the city has amounted to 212 murders, which is 4 more than New York’s current 208 homicides. The startling fact about these statistics is that Baltimore is home of only 622,000 residents while New York represents that of 8.2 million. Chicago leads both of these cities with a current homicide rate at 284 deaths.
The aforementioned stats show the immediate help and intervention needed in our inner city/urban communities. Are the same people protesting #blacklivesmatter also finding solutions to decrease the number of senseless killings happening among our communities? We surely hope so because efforts to stop police brutality AND mass homicides are equally needed in 2015.
