Phil “Flip” Saunders lost his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma as was announced by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday morning.
Saunders had acted as the teams President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach over the last few years and was an institution in the NBA for almost two decades. Saunders leaves behind a legacy of personal connection, kindness and compassion in a profession where that is typically an afterthought. Players around the league expressed their sorrow but Kevin Garnett’s reaction summed it up best.
Saunders was 60 years of age and leaves behind a mourning family as well as the many players, fans, executives and friends who will always remember him for the kind and generous man he was.
