Breaking: Tensions Rise as 5 Rebels Are Killed By Ukrainian Forces

According to Reuters, Ukrainian forces killed 5 Pro-Moscow rebels earlier on Thursday. This is the first reported use of Ukrainian military action since April 6. In retaliation of the 5 rebels killed, Russia has sent soldiers, approximately 40,000, near Ukrainian borders.

Russia already seized and annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine last month after President Vladimir Putin overturned decades of post-Cold War diplomacy by announcing the right to use military force in neighboring countries.

An invasion of mainland Ukraine’s industrial heartland would be a far more serious action. It had seemed beyond contemplation only weeks ago but now looks like a real threat, although the full extent of Putin’s territorial ambitions remains a mystery.—

 

U.S. military action has gotten involved with the recent actions of Russian involvement in Ukraine. This past week, 600 American forces have been sent to Poland to begin basic training. Another 450 are said to arrive over the next few days.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things play out over the next few days. With American alliance to NATO and Russia involvement in Ukraine, problems can definitely escalate quickly.
