The night after Christmas, and what should’ve been a quiet and seasonal time with family and friends (off the internet), turned out to be the complete opposite last Wednesday after a series of tweets fired off over the media Platform “X” (formerly Twitter).
The meltdown started from Vivek Ramaswamy co-chairman of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) tweet stating the following:
Immediately after this tweet, a twitter user replied:
“You are not addressing the massive H1B visa fraud problem @vivekGRamaswamy” – @OcrazioCornPop
Then another user replied:
So in both of the previous tweets the term H1-B was stated. It’s something that has been mentioned in previous presidential terms, however, NEVER highlighted on this scale (the scale of Twitter views on a national scale in realtime).
So what exactly is an H1-B visa?
As stated in the video H1-B Visas first came into existence around 1990. The visas were originally “designed for specialty work, however loopholes allow for outsourcing of U.S. Jobs to Low-Cost Foreign Workers”.
The video provided via 60 Minutes was made in 2017, and yet the same “Loopholes” that existed in 2017 have now compounded and resulted in American workers losing jobs in 2024. Vivek’s tweet single handedly has brought this concerning problem of H1-B fraud to light and as a result it has the “MAGA” and conservative base in an uproar! Especially after Elon Musk came to defend his co-chairnman saying the following:
So in essence, Elon not only mirrored what Vivek stated, but he doubled down saying that “America has a shortage of talent”…and “Take a step back and F**K YOURSELF in the face”.
Things took another turn for the worst because more twitter users replied to Elon and Vivek asking very good questions pertaining to H1-B visas, particularly on the necessity of having it at all.
Laura Loomer was one of the users who asked Musk a great question and in turn was met with a removal of her account and subscription. This act was very surprising to many because Elon gloats daily about “X -the Free Speech platform for all”, yet in an attempt to of mere discourse he showed emotions of a childlike brat. Elon’s action of removing Laura Loomer lead to independent investigations of other Twitter users who too loss access to their accounts ; all under the guise asking Elon H1B Visa questions.
So to now counter the tweets and optics of Elon’s emotional meltdown, Elon began replying to tweets to help users better understand his position.
The overall inquisition of users led to independent research where users began searching public databases of all H1-B recipients. The data found within this search was astonishing. Companies across the U.S. weren’t using H1-B visas solely for the “.01%” like Elon stated, but rather using H1-B visas as a LOOPHOLE, similar to what 60 Minutes stated 7 years ago!
Ultimately the independent research showed that many American jobs that were cut or removed have merely been replaced by immigrants who get paid less in most cases (for corporate greed and overall margins for the company). This type of practice is not deemed “American First” and has had conservatives questioning Elon and Vivek’s real motives as chairmen of DOGE.
Interesting enough, the actions of Vivek and Elon have inevitably brought both liberals and conservatives together, at least those that are truly “America First” minded. H1-B isn’t a partisan issue, it’s an issue for all of America. Moreover, with homelessness up 18% every job available and qualified needs to be prioritized for Americans first.
7 years ago Trump stated that H1-B visas were being abused and reform was needed. However, Trump has completely flipped his stance (coming to Elon’s rescue) stating that “I have many H1-B employees at my properties”. The irony of Trump stating this only proves that H1-B visas are being abused on all industries and not solely for the 0.01% (like Musk so gladly states).
So where do we go from here?
I believe MAGA supporters and politicians from both parties will be putting pressure on Trump and Elon to remove H1-B visas. Can you remove Affirmative Action, DEI, yet include H1-B visas? Why is one allowed versus others?
